Position

Caroline is a Guernsey Advocate and has gained a wide variety of corporate and commercial experience across three jurisdictions, including specialisms in M&A transactions, investment funds, private equity, stock exchange listings and security and regulatory work.

Caroline has been involved in some notable Guernsey transactions and, in 2011, advised the Guernsey States (government) on the successful application for Guernsey companies to be recognised for listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

After studying Law at Oxford, Caroline trained and qualified as an English solicitor with Allen & Overy and spent nine years with them, including three years in Allen & Overy’s Hong Kong office. On returning to Guernsey in 1998, Caroline spent nine years at Ozannes, qualifying as an Advocate in 2003. After spending eight years with another offshore law firm in Guernsey, where she became a partner in 2008, Caroline re-joined Mourant Ozannes in 2015 and continues to practise across the corporate, funds, financing and regulatory sectors.

Caroline qualified as a Guernsey Advocate in 2003. She was admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales (currently non-practising) in 1991 and in Hong Kong (currently non-practising) in 1994.

Mourant has expertise in fund finance, acting for both managers and banks, as well as real estate finance, including structured deals and work for non-bank lenders. M&A acquisition finance and shipping finance are more niche areas in which the firm has handled deals. Caroline Chan has a track record of handling sensitive restructurings as well as real estate finance, while Darren Bacon and John Lewis are active in fund financing transactions for well-known borrowers. Helen Wyatt focuses on banking sector transactions against highly complex regulatory backdrops. Frances Watson also acts for borrowers and lenders, including non-bank lenders, with John Rochester particularly active in UK real estate deals. Dylan Latimer, previously a counsel at the firm, is now a partner at Bedell Cristin.
