Litigation cases:
Google v Streetmap ‚Äď successfully defending Google in a High Court trial against a UK online mapping provider, related to its alleged dominant position in the markets for digital/online mapping. Preparing for the English trial was made more complex by the parallel European Commission investigation into Google‚Äôs alleged abuses of dominance in online search and online shopping. The case is arguably the most important competition case tried in the UK during 2015.

Novartis - the Patent Litigation team assists Novartis with the coordination of the global defence of its patent portfolio for Glivec¬ģ - a ground-breaking cancer treatment. This project is active in over 40 countries and Bristows is instructed to coordinate the litigation in all countries except the US. 2015/16 saw Bristows play an active role in the enforcement of patents in China, Korea, Mexico and Brazil as well as most European countries including the UK.

Samsung v Unwired Planet - representing Samsung in relation to the competition law aspects of its dispute with Unwired Planet. The competition issues are both novel and complex. Already one competition law aspect of the case is under appeal (which Bristows is also handling). Bristows also represented Google, a co-defendant in the action, until it settled. This will be the first case in which the competition law aspects of patent ‚Äúprivateering‚ÄĚ will be considered.

MobileIron v Good Technology¬† - defence of patent infringement proceedings in the UK brought by Good Technology in respect of two patents which concerns MobileIron‚Äôs ‚ÄúEnterprise Mobility Management‚ÄĚ platform, and coordination of the parallel proceedings in the US and Germany.¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†

Bristows also assists Diageo on its investments in fast-growing drinks brands via its ‚ÄúDistill Ventures‚ÄĚ program.
