James Sherratt is a solicitor with over 30 years of experience advising clients in commercial and property matters.  Having completed his training in the West End, he joined a Mayfair practice with offices and clients throughout the Gulf and the Middle East: in Abu Dhabi; Cairo; Dubai; Istanbul; and, Muscat, advising high net worth individuals and large and small companies in complex commercial and litigation matters.

James has particular experience in all types of property matters, for freeholders, landlords,  and tenants. He is experienced in acting for both landlords and tenants in opposed and unopposed renewals of leases of business premises, including in relation to a the renewal of the lease of a casino in  a 5-star hotel in Belgravia.

James has advised business owners in various shareholder and partnership disputes

He has advised in planning matters, including an appeal to the Court of Appeal in a judicial review of decision of a planning inspector over the installation of a fragmentiser for the recycling of cars at a scrapyard on the question of whether mere intensification of the existing use of land can amount to change of use requiring planning permission.

James has experience of acting for UK and overseas banks on the recovery of debts and enforcement of security over property in England, and advised the directors of an insolvent Kenyan bank defending claims for fraud and mis-representation by an investor.

He has commercial experience including advising investors on the proposed purchase of a former RAF station in South Wales and its development as a regional airport and commercial aircraft maintenance base.

James has acted for UK based investors in the purchase of a company seeking to develop open cast coal mining in Sind province, Pakistan.

He has acted for a middle-eastern client in connection with the sale of Airbus commercial passenger jets to a newly established Afghan airline.
