Career

After almost four decades with a leading international firm, including roles as global head of shipping, founder and senior partner of that firm’s Middle East office and head of international commercial arbitration, Bob is one of the founders of BDM Law LLP. Bob has handled hundreds of shipping, insurance, energy, international trade and construction cases. These include many ship fire and sinking cases including the “Estonia”, high profile casualties such as the “CMA Djakarta” calcium hypochlorite case, the “Hanjin Pennsylvania” container ship explosion, the “Kashmir” collision, fire and salvage and also ship, offshore and land based construction disputes. Bob is recognised for commercial litigation, for example the massive Equitable Life litigation in the UK, and is regularly asked to manage/consult in relation to litigation around the world. Recent cases include advising on a major fire on the “CCNI Arauco” and a major casualty in the UAE.

Bob is also recommended by Legal 500 for high profile arbitration work in the energy and construction fields and has handled dozens of high value arbitrations and mediations on a wide range of marine, insurance, construction and energy issues. Bob also sits as an arbitrator.
