Career

After reading law at the University of Edinburgh, Karen undertook her traineeship with The Scottish Executive and later joined an Edinburgh firm as a family solicitor.

She was appointed by the Scottish Ministers as a Children’s Panel member in 2003 and, in 2004, she joined The Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration specialising in matters concerning children’s welfare. After four years with the Reporter’s Office, Karen undertook a post graduate diploma at the South African College of Applied Psychology with a focus on crisis intervention and family systems therapy.

Following a period living in South Africa and Dubai raising a family and running her own commercial business, Karen joined Gibson Kerr in August 2020.

Karen is familiar with all aspects of Family Law including contact and residence disputes, and financial provision on divorce. She has experience appearing in the Sheriff Court and instructing Counsel in Court of Session actions. Karen also has extensive experience in Children’s Hearings.
