Clinical negligence (Court of Protection)

Position

Ruth is a partner and heads up the Court of Protection team. This specialises in setting up and administering compensation trusts for children and adults of clinical negligence and personal injury actions to protect assets and preserve state benefits. It includes helping clients through particularly stressful times, by managing the employment of case managers and carers, purchasing specialised equipment and motor vehicles as well as briefing specialised surveyors to adapt properties for disabled clients.

Career

Having graduated in law from Southampton University then Guildford Law School, Ruth trained at a niche private client firm in Winchester, before qualifying in 1990. Following this, she was an associate with another Reading firm before taking a six year career break, accompanying her husband on a posting to the USA. In this time she qualified as an attorney in the USA and worked in a pro bono clinic just outside of Washington DC. A move back to the UK saw her join Boyes Turner in 2002.
