Position

David leads the corporate team in Scotland and is also a central figure in the development of the firm’s new Aberdeen office. He has significant experience in corporate and banking work, including M&A, investment, corporate finance and acquisition finance. David has a broad range of clients, including banks, private companies, equity investors and SMEs, and has particular expertise in the oil and gas sector, particularly advising service companies. Prior to joining the firm, David worked as in-house counsel at BP in Aberdeen. He continues to work in a quasi-general counsel role with a number of the firm’s key clients. David is noted by Chambers to be "extremely impressive; calm and relaxed and very knowledgeable".

In 2017, Addleshaw Goddard underscored its market-leading reputation for mid-cap private equity transactions by handling a significant number of high-end mandates for some of the most active midmarket private equity houses. A three-partner team including Mike Hinchliffe, Marc Field and William James acted for ECI in its investment in a minority stake in analytics and technology company Media iQ. The firm also undertook a significant amount of work for LDC, such as its buyouts of Chargepoint and Fishawack; the key advisers on these deals were Paul Medlicott, and managing associates George Danczak, Katie Parker and Rabia Burton. The firm also excels in larger transactions (above £500m); Andrew Green and associate Ben Heywood advised Inflexion on its £800m investment in Radius Payments Solutions. It also has a strong profile acting for management teams in similar large deals. Following its merger with Scottish firm HBJ Gateley in 2017, the firm now counts on the experience of David Kirchin Murray Jack, Andrew Ley and Andrew Walker. Yunus Seedat heads up the national team, which was strengthened by the arrival of Peter Wood from Pinsent Masons LLP, and also includes Nathan Pearce and Graham Cross. Andrew Carpenter joined DWF.

Addleshaw Goddard¬†entered the Scottish market in 2017, following a merger with HBJ Gateley. Its ‚Äėhigh quality team‚Äė¬†acts for a broad base of clients, including high-growth companies, private equity houses, management teams and investee companies. In addition, the firm acts for circa 40% of the FTSE 100 companies, many of which have operations in Scotland. In a recent highlight, a team led by Anna Brown¬†acted for The City Pub Group Plc in its ¬£96m IPO and AIM admission. Practice head David Kirchin, who ‚Äėbrings a calming influence in the heat of negotiations‚Äė, and managing associate Laura Falls¬†were part of a cross-practice team which assisted private equity sponsor Cairngorm Capital II and its acquisition vehicle Cairngorm Acquisitions III Midco Limited with the acquisition of Scottish timber merchant Thornbridge Sawmills Limited. Andrew Ley¬†has deal experience in the food and drink sector, while David Horne¬†specialises in corporate transactions involving industries such as real estate, hospitality and technology. Another name to note is David Anderson, who is particularly active in the Scottish digital and fintech sectors.
