Position

Partner in the asset finance team at Addleshaw Goddard LLP. Undertakes advisory and transactional work in relation to financing assets, buying and selling receivables and lease books in the energy, transport, IT, healthcare and manufacturing sectors.

Addleshaw Goddard's 'hardworking and pragmatic' team 'always delivers' and is active across asset-based lending, asset finance, corporate banking, leveraged finance, project finance and real estate finance for both borrower and lender clients. The team advised The Hut Group on the amendment and restatement of its £515m term and revolving facilities provided by a banking syndicate comprising of Barclays Bank, RBS, HSBC Bank and others; advised Tosca Debt Capital LLP on a £10.2m second lien term loan to Verna Group Bidco in connection with the purchase of the business and assets of Synergy Health and the redemption of existing facilities with RBS; and advised Radius Payment Solutions on £255m term and revolving facilities and £50m accordion facilities in connection with the minority acquisition of Radius Payment Solutions by Inflexion Equity Partners LLP. RBS Invoice Finance, Investec Asset Finance, Speedy Hire, Dechra Pharmaceuticals and Radius Payment Solutions are also clients. The six-partner team is headed by Martin O’Shea, who is an 'excellent communicator'. Andrew Maskill, who is noted for his 'commercial approach' and heads the asset finance practice with Rebecca Williams, which includes managing associate Louise Jones. Also recommended are Simon Prendergast, who specialises in asset-based lending and trade finance work; the 'exceptional' Richard Oman, who focuses on corporate lending and leveraged acquisition finance; Katie Ridehalgh, who leads the real estate finance practice; legal directors Richard Chandler  and 'strong negotiator' Caroline Gray, who was promoted in 2017; and managing associate Ben Edwards.

The team, which works closely with its national network of offices, is advising NWE2 on the proposed Northern Tidal Power Gateways (NTPG) infrastructure development project, which would involve the development and construction of a series of tidal barrage systems across Morecambe Bay and the Duddon Estuary. The team also advised Somerset County Council on a ¬£200m long term waste treatment contract with Viridor and advised Greater Manchester Combined Authority on the establishment of its Evergreen 2 and Low Carbon funds to apply European Regional Development Funds to North West projects. Michael O‚ÄôConnor¬†heads the projects, infrastructure and energy group and is experienced across PPP and project finance matters. Legal directors Rob Thompson, who is active across energy and waste sector mandates, and Julie Hodkinson¬†, who is noted for renewable energy projects, are key members of the team. Andrew Maskill¬†and Rebecca Williams¬†handle banking and finance transactions in the energy sector, and Paul Dight, who is also based in the firm‚Äôs Leeds office, specialises in the development of energy infrastructure and advises on energy regulation.   • THE VAT E-COMMERCE PACKAGE

    A. INTRODUCTION   The VAT E-commerce Package adopted by the Council on the 5th of December 2017 includes several changes that will be gradually implemented, some changes will be effective as from the 1st of January 2019 and the rest as from the 1st of January 2021.
  • Doing business in Ukraine: turning point for the currency control in Ukraine

    One of the most hotly discussed topics in 2019 is currency control liberalization in Ukraine.The currency control liberalization was one of Ukraine‚Äôs priorities under the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. At the beginning of 2019 the National Bank of Ukraine (hereinafter the ‚ÄúNBU‚ÄĚ) approved and promulgated all long-awaited regulations, serving as the basis for a new liberal¬†system of foreign currency control. The new¬†currency control¬†system will be launched on 7 February 2019, the same day as the Law of Ukraine¬† On Currency and Exchange Transactions¬† becomes applicable. The changes are aimed at deregulation, facilitating cross-border transactions with foreign currency and expanding the list of available foreign currency transactions.
  • New Long Term Residency Visas

    After much media coverage, Cabinet Decision 56 of 2018 (the Decision ) has been gazetted which introduces new long term residency visas to, amongst others, four categories of persons in the UAE. 
  • Significant Changes to Civil Procedure Code

    Significant changes to Federal Law No 11 of 1992 (the Civil Procedure Code ) will soon be coming into effect. These changes are introduced through regulations (the Regulations ) issued under the Civil Procedure Code and will come into effect on 16 February 2019.
  • Merger Clearance Matters

    The United Arab Emirates (the UAE ) promulgated legislation to specifically address the regulation of competition (being Federal Law 4 of 2012, or the Competition Law ) several years ago but until recently, it has been the case that the requisite implementing regulations and processes were not in place. This is no longer the case. Not only have the much anticipated implementing regulations been issued, the UAE Ministry of Economy (the Ministry ) (being the regulator in charge of administering the UAE competition regime) has now formed the required committee and issued the anticipated guidance and forms to allow concerned parties to make merger clearance submissions to the Ministry where required to do so pursuant to the Competition Law.
