Nichola Carter is one of the founders of specialist immigration law firm Carter Thomas Solicitors, is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading experts in the field of sponsor compliance for education providers and businesses.

Both English UK and London Metropolitan University turned to Nichola when facing the brunt of Home Office policy change and enforcement action respectively and the Home Office also regularly liaises with her on policy developments.

Having spent almost two decades advising on this field of law, Nichola has a reputation for providing sensible and pragmatic legal advice to sponsors. The firm offers a range of services to sponsors including on-site mock audits and interview preparation compliance reviews, advice on the sponsorship of migrants, right to work/civil penalty guidance and, where needed, advice concerning UKVI enforcement action. 

Nichola also advises high-net worth individuals requiring assistance on applications such as Tier 1 Exceptional Talent, Innovator and Investor visas. She is also instructed by a large number of law firms that do not offer immigration services ensuring that their clients are catered for in this complex area of law. 

In addition to her work with the firm’s clients, Nichola joined the team at the internationally recognised EU Rights Clinic based in Brussels in 2017 and provides cutting edge advice to EU nationals and their family members and also to businesses and education providers seeking advice on Brexit related issues.

Nichola was one of a small number of lawyers invited by the Home Office to review and comment on the drafts of the Points Based System in 2008. She currently sits on their Business User Forum and is actively engaged in the design of the UK’s future immigration system. In 2015 she was appointed to The Law Society’s Immigration Law Committee and she also sits on the consulting editorial board of LexisNexis’ PSL immigration service. Nichola has been personally ranked in all the leading legal directories for over a decade.
