Shakespeare Martineau LLP fields a particularly strong contentious practice, encompassing adjudication, Technology and Construction Court litigation, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods. The team also handles non-contentious matters such as risk management in procurement contexts. The group is especially active for developers, contractors, clients from the healthcare sector and professional practices such as architects. Practice head Alex Smith recently joined forces with real estate colleague Kevin Sumner to advise Code Students on the development of a large new student accommodation scheme in Coventry, including the negotiation of the construction documentation. Other highlights included advising Bildurn on the development of an extensive new commercial office development in Nottingham, involving advice on the demolition and the building contract. The client list also features Zone Developments, Lloyds and new client Rotherwood Group.
