Notable work

Sharon has acted for 30 patients and their families against a local hospital, and surgeons relating to negligent treatment which led to catastrophic injury and death. A subsequent investigation revealed serious failings in governance and management systems at the Trust involved, and serious failings by the surgeons also. Poor surgical standards were uncovered, as were issues such as the failure to obtain consent from patients for treatment, and even the failure of the Trust to investigate complaints raised by the hospital’s own whistle blowers.

Significant damages settlements Sharon has secured include £4.8m for a cerebral palsy client, £3.8m for a father of three children who sustained tetraplegia, a £2.5m lump sum plus £120,000 rising to £150,000 per year for life for a brain injury client and £1.5 million for a client who sustained a below knee amputation. Sharon also achieved a settlement of £1.6m for failed hip replacement surgery.

She has also been involved in group action litigation involving Gulf War syndrome, Myodil myelogram, PPI breast implant and DePuy hip prostheses.

The clinical negligence team at Shakespeare Martineau LLP, which operates under the business name of Lime Solicitors, is led by the ‘hugely experienced’ Neil Clayton. The team’s caseload involves brain, spinal and complex birth injury cases, oftentimes where negligence during birth has led to the claimant developing cerebral palsy – which is Sharon Lam‘s particular area of expertise – or led to psychiatric harm being caused to the mother. In addition, the team has experience in restorative dentistry cases, diabetes care negligence and complex wrongful birth cases. Victoria Gofton and Josie Robinson are acting on a range of high-value cases, and are likewise recommended.
