Career

James Cook joined Blacks Solicitors as a Partner in the Commercial Property team in 2019, and specialises in town and country planning, highways, and compulsory purchase law.

Working with clients in both the private and public sectors, he provides strategic advice in relation to major regeneration planning of large scale residential and mixed-use schemes, retail and business parks.

This includes: the promotion of sites through Local Plan Examinations; Planning Applications (including Appeals); the drafting and negotiation of complex Section 106 planning obligations and providing ongoing advice following the grant of permission/implementation.

James also advises on Environmental Impact Assessment, planning enforcement, compulsory purchase, highways and public rights of way, listed buildings, certificates for existing and proposed lawful use/development, advertisement control, and town and village greens.

On the litigious side, James also supports clients in relation to High Court actions including Judicial Reviews and Injunctions.

In addition, James was ranked in Planning Magazine’s list of “Highest Rated Planning Solicitors” in 2018.
