David’s acts for start-up companies at the beginning of their life cycle, through to established quoted companies. His practice is predominantly international in nature and he therefore regularly coordinates advice across a variety of jurisdictions to ensure a consistent approach, regardless of where the client is doing business.


He has considerable experience advising on public takeovers, private acquisitions and international joint ventures in various sectors, but with a particular emphasis on both tech and natural resources.

The commercial, IT and outsourcing team at Gowling WLG is led by Birmingham-based expert Jocelyn Paulley, who specialises in non-contentious IT matters, with particular experience advising clients in the retail and technology sectors, as well as co-leading the data privacy and cybersecurity team on the non-contentious side. Commercial litigator Patrick Arben, also based in Birmingham, leads on contentious IT matters, while corporate expert and technology group co-chair David Brennan focuses on M&A and equity capital funding work.

The multidisciplinary practice benefits from a dedicated financial services regulatory team, which has expertise in cryptoassets regulation, consumer credit, payment services and the use of AI in financial services. David Brennan co-heads the team alongside Ian Mason, with the latter advising on the regulatory aspects of fintech, including ICOs, cryptocurrencies and blockchain developments.
