Partner and head of corporate commercial, with broad experience of corporate and banking transactions and other commercial work. Acts for clients in a diverse range of business sectors, both in the UK and elsewhere, including the banking, manufacturing tech and telecoms sectors. His corporate transactional work has included dealing with many private company sales and purchases, MBOs, restructurings and joint ventures. He regularly advises on commercial agreements of all types and has particular expertise in the area of non-contentious intellectual property, IT, publishing and media agreements. His clients are drawn from the UK and overseas, so much of his work involves an international dimension. As a member of the executive committee of Interleges, he travels abroad regularly to meet other members and to deal with referrals made by them.

The technology, retail, manufacturing and financial services sectors are particular areas of focus for the team at Royds Withy King, which regularly acts for overseas clients entering the UK market. John North leads the team, which also includes Claus Andersen, who is dual qualified in the UK and Denmark, and Tony Roberts. Recent highlights include advising a Swedish company in the heating technology sector on the English law aspects of its acquisition of a UK-headquartered company, and acting for the shareholders of event management agency Banks Sadler Group on the sale of the company to American Express Global Business Travel. Baglioni Hotels Group, De Agostini UK and Oxford Genetics are also key clients.

Starting January 1st, 2013, a new tax law (Law No. 822, Tax Concertation Law) came into force in and completely changed the taxation system in Nicaragua. Two years later a new law was issued by the National Assembly containing more than 80 amendments, additions and repeals (Law No 891) which came into force December 18th, 2014.
