Jonathan is a Commercial and Property Litigation Partner with nearly 20 years’ post qualification experience (PQE).   A substantial part of his practice involves commercial and property disputes.

Jonathan has been involved in leading cases on adverse possession, rights of light and the judicial review of planning applications.

Jonathan has substantial experience in the leisure sector, having acted for hotel groups, landed estates, property investors, corporates, partnerships and high net worth individuals on a range of complex disputes including regulation and compliance.

Highlights include advising:

  • A private individual on one of the leading cases on adverse possession (Heaney v Kirkby [2015] UKUT 178 (TCC))

  • An entire village against a local authority in a judicial review claim following flawed planning procedures.  This is a reported case.

  • Formby 2010 Limited, the developer of One Blackfriars Tower in London, in relation to a multimillion pound claim against the former administrators of the company.

  • A property investment company on securing insurance to cover the losses caused by Covid-19.

  • Leisure sector companies on their contentious matters:  This has included complex disputes relating to lease exits, contract disputes, rent reviews and arrears, adverse possession, enforcing breaches of restrictive covenants and the pursuit and negotiation of dilapidations claims.
