Position

Leads the professional risks team in the London office. Specialises in professional negligence and construction claims, usually acting on behalf of insurers. Particularly extensive experience in the following areas: (a) claims involving clients in the construction industry, including architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers and contractors (he is a qualified adjudicator); (b) complaints or claims against financial advisers; and (c) policy coverage disputes. Regularly handles claims against other professions, such as estate agents, insurance brokers, surveyors and accountants, and receives direct instructions from various commercial clients in matters requiring the resolution of disputes. Has been involved in a number of high-profile and complex cases, including McLaughlin & Harvey v The Hospitals for Sick Children (for the Hospital), Target v Redferns (for the solicitors’ excess layer insurers), The Corporation of Lloyds v DEGW and Others (for the architects), Dodson v Dodson (for the insurance brokers) and Panatown v Alfred McAlpine Construction Ltd (for the quantity surveyors). Also recently acted for one of the defending parties in a very substantial dispute arising from the collapse of a tunnel at Gerrards Cross.

Quentin Fox regularly handles claims against clients in the construction industry, claims against financial advisers and policy coverage disputes. Ed Lewis is an ‘excellent negotiator’ and is instructed on claims across the construction, technology and professional services sectors. Robert Crossingham is noted for his expertise in handling disputes relating to property and financial transactions. James Denison has ‘very detailed knowledge of construction law and is able to explain complex matters in a simple way which is easier to understand and digest’, and associate Paul Lowe is ‘very commercial and pragmatic’. Liverpool-based Mike Grant is national head of professional risk and is noted for his expertise in the construction sector.
