Regional office head in Leeds and head of regulatory services nationally; specialist in advising in relation to regulatory enforcement action, especially in the field of health and safety, including involvement in police investigation in manslaughter and corporate manslaughter cases. Acts predominantly for defendants but some prosecution experience. Extensive advocacy experience in the magistrates and coroners courts on behalf of commercial organisations, professional advisers and public bodies in sectors ranging from healthcare to construction and petrochemicals.

At Weightmans LLP, the Liverpool-based Dewi Ap Thomas heads the regulatory team and specialises in criminal and coronial jurisdictions, while Crispin Kenyon heads the London and South East team and is an expert in the construction, waste management and transport sectors. Leeds-based  David Lewis, who formerly led the regulatory practice, remains a key member of the team, with a strong emphasis on the manufacturing, construction and petro-chemical sectors. Birmingham based Andrew Brammer, who recently joined from Cartwright King, represents businesses facing criminal investigations and prosecutions.

Weightmans LLP's health and safety department is now led by regulatory head Dewi Ap-Thomas, who succeeded David Lewis, now the firm's senior partner. The team is known for its work in relation to fatal accidents, assisting clients with investigations, representing them at inquests and providing a 'cradle-to-grave' service for clients, working closely with the national firm's other offices around the country. Gillian Hulme, who is dual qualified as an Environmental Health Officer, is also recommended.
