Lee joined the firm in May 2014 from DLA Piper as partner and national head of planning. Lee is a specialist planning solicitor and has considerable experience of all aspects of planning and related law advising across a range of sectors. Lee regularly advises in relation to complex planning agreements, planning appeals, judicial review challenges, environmental impact assessment issues, listed buildings, village green issues, highways and compulsory purchase law. Lee has advised on some of the most high-value and complex projects in the country, including on the first major infrastructure project to be successfully promoted under the Planning Act 2008 and various other DCO applications, representing both promoters and statutory consultees. Lee has particular expertise in relation to village green litigation and recently had conduct of a successful appeal to the Supreme Court on behalf of a developer client in the widely reported Paddico/Betterment village green litigation.

Simon Goacher   heads the team at Weightmans LLP  that provides full support to local authorities from advising on major regeneration projects, to equal pay disputes and child care and adult social care issues. Lee Gordon has been leading the advice to Charnwood District Council on the North East Leicester sustainable urban extension project which includes 4,500 dwellings on a 360 hectare site that will be developed over a 15 year period. North West Legal Consortium, Manchester City Council and Liverpool City Council are all clients.

Weightmans LLP’s planning and environment team is active across infrastructure and energy projects, with particular expertise in compulsory purchase. The retail and waste sectors are key areas of focus and he team is also noted for its experience in contentious environmental matters. Bolton Council instructed the team on the Rivington Chase development, a regeneration project of heavily contaminated brownfield land; advised Broad Environmental Services on its waste packaging, collection, transport and export operations, and on the construction of a new energy from waste facility in Wales; and acted for landowner Anglesey Aluminium Metal on the re-development of its former Aluminium works near Holyhead. Simon Colvin, who heads the environment team and is also head of the utilities sector, specialises in UK, EU and international environmental law and policy; he is 'commercial, responsive and has a good grasp of business needs and excellent knowledge of environmental law'. Planning head Lee Gordon, who splits his time across the Manchester and Leeds offices, has experience in the promotion of major residential and infrastructure projects acting on behalf of both public and private sector clients, and is experienced in compulsory purchase orders. Planning lawyer Bob Pritchard, who also splits his time between Manchester and Leeds, joined from Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP, advises public sector clients on large and complex schemes. Consultant Ray Clarke handles planning, environment and health and safety matters; associate Julie Goulbourne defends clients subject to environmental investigations and prosecutions by the Environment Agency and other environmental regulators; and associate Gillian Hulme advises on environmental risk and liability in relation to corporate and property transactions.

Weightmans is noted for its expertise in residential and urban expansion projects, public sector work, infrastructure and energy sector projects and compulsory purchase work. The practice recently advised Peterborough City Council on a proposed new township development; it also assisted Corby Borough Council with the Priors Hall Park urban extension project, handled the planning aspects of the West of Loughborough Sustainable Urban Extension Project for Charnwood Borough Council, and acted for North Yorkshire County Council and Selby District Council on the DCO application for the construction of a combined-cycle gas turbine power station. Lee Gordon , who divides his time between Leeds and Manchester, heads the department, which recently recruited Bob Pritchard  from Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP.
