Position

Paul set up and leads Weightmans’ Disease Counter Fraud Team and has written and presented widely on this subject. He has extensive experience in all occupational disease types including asbestos, noise, legionella, muskuloskeletal issues and asbestos . Recent case highlights include the Supreme Court case of Dryden & Ors v Johnson Matthey plc [2018] UKSC 18; a case that clarified what constitutes a compensateable injury and Zurich Insurance plc v Romaine [2019] EWCA Civ 851; a case that confirmed the procedure to be adopted in contempt of Court claims and emphasized the vital importance of honesty on the part of the claimant in historic disease claims.

Career

Trained Cartwright & Lewis; qualified 1991; partner Weightmans 2008. Paul joined Weightmans from law firm Challinors (prev Cartwright and Lewis) where he trained and became head of the personal injury department in 1999, working predominantly on industrial disease and Fatal Accident Act claims.
