Matthew Foden
Position
Matthew is an associate based in our Liverpool office within the local government and police team who specialises in defending actions against the police.
Matthew represents a number of police forces, including the Metropolitan Police Service, British Transport Police and Merseyside Police, advising on employers’ liability and public liability claims including actions for false imprisonment, assault, malicious prosecution, misfeasance in public office, negligence, workplace stress, and claims under the Human Rights Act and Equality Act. He additionally advises various police forces and NHS Trusts on Data Protection matters; and advises police forces on wide reaching judicial review applications.
Matthew has undertaken secondment work within police force legal departments, providing day to day advice on operational matters to officers on duty.
