Career

José is a partner and the head of the Compliance & Regulatory practice. He has extensive experience advising clients in a broad range of public law matters and is widely recognized as a leading lawyer in the construction and financial services sectors.

In his compliance practice, José acts for domestic conglomerates and multinational corporations in complex compliance exercises, with a focus on cross-border data privacy, anti-money laundering, anti-corruption, and consumer protection. He often leads multijurisdictional exercises to review and localize customer-facing documentation and internal policies.

José also heads the Construction & Infrastructure practice. He specializes in administrative tender law and construction disputes, having successfully represented infrastructure companies and consortia tendering for large scale public and private projects, as well as in injunctive and post-injunctive administrative proceedings. He also advises on various aspects of urban planning, including drafting and revision of relevant legislation and ancillary regulation.

In his financial services practice, José represents retail and investment banks, financial assets exchanges, payment providers, and wealth management companies in a broad range of licensing and regulatory matters, both on the advisory and infringement side. His experience includes advising on market entry licensing, reviewing and localizing of financial products and derivatives agreements, notably ISDA.

José currently serves as the head of the Lisbon Office.
