Alex has a broad range of experience across all aspects of property work acting for developers, landowners, property investors and commercial owners and occupiers.

His main areas of work are:

    property development;
    commercial property acquisitions and disposals, investment and lettings;
    dealing with the property aspects of energy projects;
    advising on the environmental aspects of mining and minerals operations;
    providing specialist advice on mines and mineral issues; and
    advising on rural property transactions.

Alex also regularly advises on the property and environmental aspects of corporate and property finance transactions.

Over the course of his career, Alex has acted on a wide variety of development projects dealing with commercial, residential and mixed-use regeneration and development schemes as well of development projects in the natural resources/energy sectors.

He can provide advice on all property aspects of development projects and has particular experience of site acquisition and land assembly through conditional contracts, option agreements and planning promotion and collaboration agreements together with other development-related work such as development agreements, joint venture agreements, complex overage/clawback arrangements, development finance and ultimately the letting and disposal of completed developments.

Alex is also able to provide specialist advice on mineral ownership issues and their impact on development projects.

He has particular experience of acting on natural resources projects and in particular the property and environmental aspects of mining and quarrying operations, acting for landowners, developers and operators/end users.

Assisting clients with transactions and planning matters constitutes a key portion of Ward Hadaway‚Äôs workload. The ‚Äėrecommended‚Äô team is led by Neil Robson, who is best known for his experience in advising various estates clients on land use and planning matters; he continues to advise the Northumberland National Park Authority on various issues pertaining to The Sill, a landscape discovery centre situated on the Roman Wall in a world heritage site in Northumberland. This instruction includes transactional advice and assistance with the planning application for the centre. Other key individuals include transactional property expert Alex Cox, rural property and mineral reserves specialist Stefan Bainbridge¬†and main contact for trust and asset protection issues Andrew Facer.

At Ward Hadaway, public sector property head Karen Andrews acted for Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust on the acquisition of a greenfield site for the proposed development of mental health facilities, and Alex Cox advised Northumberland Estates on the acquisition of Quayside House in Newcastle. Simon Errington advised Union Retail Properties on lease and building contracts for a hotel development, and Neil Smith assisted the Foundation of Light with its development of a sports and education facility, which included occupational and infrastructure leases, funding issues and licences. Heather Markham and head of development Lesley Fairclough are other key individuals of Neil Robson’s team. Fairclough assisted various national housebuilders with plot sales and part-exchange acquisitions.
