Steven joined Ward Hadaway has over 23 years' legal experience.

He has extensive experience in both contentious and non-contentious insolvency matters with a particular focus on contentious matters.

He is well known around the country by insolvency practitioners and has developed a sound knowledge of tracing assets abroad and realising these assets for the benefit of creditors.

Steven has extensive experience advising the leading insolvency practitioners and ‘Big Four’ accountants on aspects of corporate and personal insolvency matters as well as individuals and companies who may be looking at defending actions and/or creditors and debtors generally.

His experience includes acting for insolvency practitioners, providing advice and assistance to businesses facing financial difficulties with cash flow and debt issues, directors in relation to their duties, individuals and landlords on all aspects of insolvency law.

The team at Ward Hadaway is led by Steven Petrie, who is adept at defending individuals and companies and particularly experienced in advising insolvency practitioners and accountants on a wide range of corporate and personal insolvency matters. Paralegal Debbie Bird regularly receives instructions from a broad range of clients including electrical and construction suppliers, property management companies, surveyors, private schools, nurseries, car dealerships and letting agents.

Ward Hadaway's ‘commercial, prompt, client-focused and risk-aware’ team has ‘deep expertise in personal insolvency matters’ and provides ‘informed advice’. Co-head Steven Petrie ‘bestows his very high standards across all levels of the team’ and is experienced in advising insolvency practitioners and accountants. In recent work, he acted for a liquidator in successfully pursuing claims against the former director of a company for preference payments, unlawful dividends and misfeasance, and assisted a trustee with pursuing a property transferred to a family member at an undervalue as part of a deceased person’s estates. ‘Prompt’ co-head Jane Garvin is well versed in handling contentious and non-contentious insolvency work with particular focus on corporate advisory and recovery matters.
