Sujit in his 21 years of experience has specialized in all Indirect Taxes specifically Customs duty, Excise duty, Service tax, VAT and has catered to clients in various sectors

He was the arguing counsel for Alstom for the landmark decision by the Gujrat High Court on the constitutional validity of provisions pertaining to deemed export benefits for power projects – this decision had an immensely favorable impact on the entire power sector. He is also representing several power companies (including group companies of Tata and Reliance ADA group) before the Supreme Court now, on the aforesaid issue.

Sujit has advised several prestigious infrastructure projects (including projects in the roads, ports, airports, power etc sectors) including marquee projects like the first Ultra Mega Power Project as well as the first National Waterway Project in India.

He is also a pioneering thought leader who has been published in several national and international publications and was invited to present his views on the GST Constitutional Amendment Bill to the Rajya Sabha Select Committee. Mr. Ghosh is also a key faculty member of the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal and has taken several sessions on complex legal issues for High Court and Supreme Court judges. Sujit played a key role in conceptualizing the EPC Conference (with Infraline) which became a landmark thought-leadership event in the Infra-EPC space. The conference was organized every year in Delhi and Mumbai between 2006-2012 and was a widely attended event by various renowned players in this sector.

Sujit has been recognized as the “Tax lawyer of the Year, 2016” by the Indian National Bar Association and as “Star Tax Lawyer of the Year” by Legal Era. Sujit has also been awarded the Leadership Excellence Award, 2017 for “Practice Innovation in Taxation Laws”.

Advaita Legal's tax group is representing Summit Online Trade Solutions in challenging the notified two rates of tax on the sale of lottery tickets dependent on the area of sale. In another work highlight, Atul Dua alongside principle Gaurav Gupta, assisted JCDecaux Advertising with tax structuring its India-based operations, classification of imports and utilisation of tax credits. The department is headed up by Sujit Ghosh, who specialises predominantly in indirect taxation matters.

Advaita Legal's team has particular strength in advising clients on foreign trade, customs, transfer pricing and trade agreement policies. The firm has seen an uptick in solar power matters: for example, the group assisted infrastructure company SP Infra with a challenge to the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR)' recommendation of imposing a 70% safeguard duty on imports of solar cells and modules into India. In another matter, the team represented ReNew Power in an anti-dumping investigation before the DGTR concerning solar modules imported from Malaysia, Taiwan and China. Sujit Ghosh and Atul Dua are the key names.
