Career

Gavin is a full-time international arbitrator who has sat as sole, co-arbitrator and presiding arbitrator in over 125 international arbitrations under the rules of the SIAC, ICC, HKIAC, LCIA, KCAB, CIETAC, JCAA, SHIAC and UNCITRAL. Gavin has sat in matters seated in Europe and across the Asia-Pacific region, including the UK, Hong Kong, mainland China, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Australia. From 2009 to 2010, Gavin was based in Beijing where he undertook his Masters in Chinese law at Peking University, while also working as an arbitrator. Having completed his LL.M. in November 2010, Gavin relocated to Hong Kong to establish Arbitration Chambers. Gavin is Head of Arbitration Chambers, which in the ten years since its inception has expanded to include Hong Kong, London and New York and is now recognized as the leading chambers in the world for independent, full-time arbitrators.  

Gavin has sat in matters under common and civil law, involving general commercial disputes, finance & shareholder disputes/IPO, shipping, international trade & commodities, IP and China-related disputes. Gavin is one of the leading arbitrators in Asia and undoubtedly one of the most experienced of the next generation of full-time international arbitrators. He predominantly sits as Chairman and regularly sits in matters where the sums in dispute are in the hundreds of millions and billions of dollars. Gavin regularly speaks at leading conferences and was previously the Chair of ICC Australia, on the board of the CIArb in Hong Kong, and he founded and ran the Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball.
