Position

Ying is a director of Via Law Corporation, a specialist law firm that focuses on Intellectual Property (“IP”) and Technology Media and Telecoms (“TMT”).

Via Law Corporation subsequently entered into a partnership with Taylor Vinters Via and Via Law Corporation was renamed to Taylor Vinters Via LLC.

Ying is active in commercial technology work and contentious intellectual property matters. She is the only female named by Legal 500 as a leading individual for TMT in from 2016 to 2019 and the only female noted by Chambers & Partners for IP litigation. She is also showcased in Asian Legal Business 2016 ’40 under 40’ list which highlights the brightest young legal minds in the region under 40. She is also listed in Singapore Business Review’s 2016 ‘Singapore’s most influential lawyers aged 40 and under’ list where nominees are selected based on thought leadership, influence and success. In 2018, Ying was named one of the world’s top ten cryptocurrency experts in the world by The Cryptocurrency Magazine, which received 2000 nominations. She was also named one of Singapore’s Top 100 Lawyers by Asia Business Law Journal. 

Ying has a keen interest in technology and a grasp of technology concepts. This has enabled her to advise clients in various industries such as e-commerce, semi-conductor, 3D imagery and oil & gas where technology involved. She has also been involved in negotiations involving shareholders’ disputes, incorporation matters, funding and licensing of software as a service. Ying has worked with a number of founders of tech startups to successfully secure funding.

Ying started the Blockchain practice at TVV and has been personally involved in several high profile blockchain companies including B.Buster an affiliated subsidiary of the Korean company that operates Bithumb, one of the biggest crypto-exchanges in the world; Gifto, a decentralised gifting protocol which raised USD30million in under a minute from the opening of the public sales of tokens; BitGuild, a decentralised gaming platform steered by an all-star team; Nebulas, a platform that provides a search framework for all blockchains and Switcheo, the first NEO based DEX.

Career

Ying was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2005 and started her legal career at KhattarWong in the corporate department. She then worked in China for 3 ½ years in a business role where she gained experience negotiating with Chinese parties. On returning to Singapore, Ying became active in litigation and subsequently joined Via Law Corporation in 2014. Because of her interest in litigation, Ying continues to be active in litigation matters particularly involving the protection of intellectual property.
