Position

Antonio Cueto is a partner in our Intellectual Property Group, based in Madrid. His practice covers all IP-related matters including patents (involving mechanical, chemical, electrical and biotechnology patent areas) designs, trademarks, copyright and unfair competition (with particular expertise in the field of trade secrets). Antonio is extremely experienced in litigation with substantial experience in handling complex disputes relating to patents, trademarks, unfair competition and designs.

Career

He joined us in May 2010 having worked in the Intellectual Property Department of Gómez-Acebo & Pombo for eleven years. In 2006 he worked as a Foreign Lawyer in the Patent Department of Dorsey & Whitney LLP in the USA. He is author of several articles on Intellectual Property published in specialised publications and is co-author of the first Handbook published in Spain by Francis Lefebvre on Intellectual Property (Edition 2012-2013) and he is also the author of the chapter "Novelty and Inventive Step" of the recent book "The new Spanish Patent Law" (December 2015).

He has an extensive teaching experience in Spanish and foreign Universities and Foundations. In addition, Antonio is Professor at the Patent Module as part of the Master in Intellectual Property of the University of Alicante (Magister Lvcentinvs) since 2010.

The team is advising Bloom Motion on its prospective investment in the Bacoa Group of gourmet burger restaurants, and is assisting Celor SAS with the acquisition of a stake in Clicars Spain, a car retailer. Bird & Bird was bolstered by the arrival of Mariano Santos, who joined in March 2018 from Herrero & Asociados. Well-regarded of counsel Raul Bercovitz recently advised Lexmark on the impact of the Royal Decree-Law 12/2017, which has established a private copying compensation system based on levies on recording and storage devices. He and Santos also advised the International Olympic Committee on the use of certain archive recordings and films. Senior associate Teresa Mercadal works with key client Mediaproducción. Manuel Lobato, Antonio Cueto and up-and-coming senior associate José Angel García-Zapata are the other names to note.
