Bird & Bird is regarded as ‘a benchmark in Italy’ for patent litigation and more generally for the full range of IP matters. The team represents food, fashion, media and pharmaceutical companies in patent and trademark litigation, often of a cross-border nature, operating as an integrated part of the wider firm’s top-rated international practice. Italy managing partner Giovanni Galimberti and firmwide chair Massimiliano Mostardini co-head the practice in Milan, alongside the much-praised Arturo Leone – described as ‘an undisputed authority’ – in Rome. Antonella De Gregori made partner in May 2019, while Claudia Ricciardi and Rita Tardiolo were promoted to counsel. The team, which also includes senior counsel Fulvio Mellucci, was recently boosted by the arrival of Eleonora Rosati, who joined as of counsel in January 2019 and divides her time between Milan and London.
Bird & Bird‘s technology and communications team is jointly headed by chairman Massimiliano Mostardini, head of telecoms Arturo Leone, head of IT Roberto Camilli, and head of media Giovanni Galimberti. The firm has particular expertise in the IP areas of copyright, trade marks and patents. It has recently represented the main Italian telecom company Telecom Italia in a series of disputes involving antitrust and IP law (advertising and copyright violations). The team also advises a number of high-profile domestic and international clients in the technology and media sectors. Counsel Federico Marini Balestra has in-depth expertise in TMT law and regulations.
