Position
Janneke is partner in our Competition & EU Law practice and is based in The Hague. Janneke specialises in competition law and public procurement law and advises a wide variety of clients, both contentious and non-contentious. She has substantial experience in merger control, cartel cases and abuse of dominance. Janneke has broad expertise in advising on distribution agreements and frequently provides in-house competition compliance programs and trainings to clients. Additionally, she has extensive experience in drafting Codes of Conducts and compliance manuals for companies with a focus on competition law. In addition, she advises a wide variety of clients on public procurement issues throughout the process from reviewing tender documents and advising clients on which questions should be asked of the procuring entities and representing companies in court, if necessary. Her practice areas are primarily focused on the postal and telecommunications, consumer products as well as food and beverages sectors. She is also a member of our Tech & Comms Group. Janneke also publishes regularly and is co-editor for the European and Economic chapter of the Dutch journal ‘Juridisch Up To Date’.

Before joining us in 2009, Janneke worked for another top tier law firm in the Netherlands. In 2011, she successfully completed the post graduate public procurement course at the Grotius Academy.

Co-heads of the media group Olaf Trojan and Paul Waszink specialise in different areas within media – Trojan is the first port of call for national and regional newspapers seeking advice on freedom of speech and internet-related matters, while Waszink focuses on regulatory matters in the telecoms space and represents media parties in FOI proceedings. Competition and EU law expert Janneke Kohlen works on horizontal cooperation agreements and distribution agreements and frequently provides in-house competition compliance programs and training to clients. Bird & Bird‘s healthcare and life sciences practice is known for its IP focus, with practitioners ‘very strong in chemical and pharmaceutical patent matters (including regulatory issues)’. Hague-based Marc van Wijngaarden co-heads the Dutch life sciences group, specialising in patent litigation, compliance, corporate and competition laws for pharmaceutical, biotech and medical devices companies. Fellow co-head Michiel Wurfbain advises on cross-border M&A deals, public-to-private transactions, financial matters and corporate governance. Armand Killan is an expert in patent disputes involving medical devices and pharmaceutical clients.
