Dispute resolution

Within: Dispute resolution

Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners occupies a space in the upper echelons of Thailand’s dispute resolution market, where it has achieved enviable successes in high-profile litigation. The litigation department works almost irrespective of industry sector, and is equipped to handle domestic disputes as well as cross-border matters, where it works closely with leading foreign firms. TMT litigation is a particular area of strength; the team has handled some of the country’s most significant telecoms disputes, which recently included Rapinnart Prongsiriwattana representing a Thai telecoms company in Administrative Court proceedings concerning certain questions of concessions, public-private law and contract law. Elsewhere, Warathorn Wongsawangsiri successfully defended an insurance company against a THB2.2bn claim by a company in the automotive sector. Other specialisms in the department include corporate criminal defence involving corporate governance and securities law; Sakchai Limsiripothong, who is one of the firm’s leading litigators, is a key contact in this space. Practice head Phisit Dejchaiyasak is well-versed in high-profile litigation and arbitration, and Pathorn Towongchuen has a broad dispute resolution practice that includes administrative law, bankruptcy and debt restructuring.

Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners is by any measure a go-to firm for domestic litigation, and also maintains a busy international arbitration practice. With particular experience in Singapore, South Korea and Switzerland, the team regularly works with leading international firms to represent Thai and multinational clients. In addition, it has a solid track record in the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Thailand; in recent work, the team assisted a Macau-based company with the enforcement of an SIAC award. Warathorn Wongsawangsiri is one of the key names to note for international arbitration; he is currently representing several clients before the SIAC and HKIAC. The wider dispute resolution team is led by Phisit Dejchaiyasak.
