Diversity and Inclusion

Creating a diverse and inclusive culture is a key business priority for Travers Smith. We believe only the highest-performing teams, which maximise the power of different opinions, perspectives and cultural references, will succeed in the marketplace. Our focus on diversity and inclusiveness is integral to how we serve our clients, develop our people and play a leadership role in our communities. We have an ambitious and progressive programme of initiatives aimed at fostering a more inclusive workplace by driving change at organisational and individual levels. These include:

Employee resource groups
We have three groups: Women's Initiative, Faith Resources and LGBT+.  They are a valuable asset to the firm and play an important role in empowering individual members and in fostering a diverse and inclusive work culture.

Staff engagement
We have a rich and varied series of events throughout the year, which involve our people, clients and external organisations, aimed at raising awareness of diversity matters across the firm.  Some of our previous sessions include: mental health and wellbeing, faith and religion in the workplace and engaging with LGBT clients and customers.

Gender Policy Review Committee
With women making up 15% of the partnership, we recognise that there is more we can do to help address gender equality at management level.  With this mind, we have set up a Gender Policy Review Committee comprising of six partners, the Senior Partner and Managing Partner to examine what more we can be doing to ensure we attract, retain and develop female lawyers.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Our CSR Programme supports charities, local communities, and not-for-profit-organisations, as well as improving access to justice by broadening the range of people who can access our legal skills. Our key objectives in this area are:

Working with local communities
We work with our local communities, developing meaningful ties with schools, universities, youth projects and community groups, and using our influence to help give people better opportunities to access to the legal profession.

Pro bono - Access to justice
We undertake a number of pro bono initiatives designed to give individuals and organisations, both at home and abroad, the opportunity to access levels of legal advice that would not normally be obtainable

Charities Programme
Our partnership provides substantial financial support to a major charity partner over a two year period.  The Travers Smith Foundation also enables us to support even more charities, local communities, and not-for-profit-organisations by issuing small grants and donations.

CSR Art Programme
Our innovative CSR Art Programme supports final-year Visual Art Undergraduates from The University of Westminster and post graduate students from The Royal College of Art with the transition from student life to professional practice. Sale of the students' work is facilitated through a silent auction and each artist receives the full value of the highest bid. Each artist also receives a small cash award for taking part. In addition, we provide pro bono legal and business support to participating students.
