Jo-Ann See is a Director of Amica Law LLC, and heads the firm’s Trade Marks Practice. She has been in practice for more than 30 years, specialising in Intellectual Property (IP) and in particular, IP protection and management. 

Before joining private practice, she was the Deputy Registrar of Trade Marks and Patents in Singapore. Jo-Ann is also a registered patent attorney in Singapore as well as a Notary Public and Commissioner of Oaths.

Jo-Ann has vast experience working with clients in the development and protection of their IP rights. She is a trusted adviser to numerous clients, helping them to identify their IP assets, advising them on strategies for protection of their IP rights worldwide, and managing and reviewing their IP portfolios. On top of that, she also advises clients on contentious opposition, invalidation and revocation proceedings. Jo-Ann has acted for clients in diverse industries such as entertainment, cosmetics, chemicals and petroleum, telecommunications, information technology, food and beverage, hospitality, and consumer products.

She is widely considered as a veteran in Singapore’s IP scene, recognised time and time again as a leading IP lawyer by various regional and international legal publications. She was ranked by Chambers Asia Pacific Guide as being in the top band of Singapore IP practitioners. The publication described Jo-Ann as being “known in the market as a leader in IP protection and brand management, with peers acknowledging her position in the market, saying: “The top band is an accurate reflection of her standing.”

She has also been named as a leading lawyer by AsiaLaw for 6 years, one of the world’s leading trademark professionals by the World Trade Mark Review (2012 – 2018), one of the best experts in trade marks by the Expert Guides Best of the Best for 5 years (2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017), a star by Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars (2016 and 2017) and has been listed as one of the world’s leading patent practitioners by IAM 1000 (2013 – 2015).

Her expertise has made her a valued member of various international IP organisations. She was on the Board of Directors of the International Trade Marks Association (INTA), a 131-year-old organization with more than 5,600 members in over 90 countries, for 3 years. She was also the Chairperson of the IP Committee of the Law Society of Singapore, which supports IP practitioners in different areas of IP practice, for 7 years.

Today, she is a member of INTA’s Non-Traditional Trade Marks Sub Committee which champions the recognition, registration and protection of non-traditional trade marks; sits on the Council of the ASEAN IP Association, which works to transform ASEAN into an innovative and competitive region through the use of IP; and is a member of the Expert Panel of the Singapore Domain Name Dispute Resolution Service which deals with domain name disputes.
