Career
Lara is a Partner in the Real Estate Team. Lara specialises in terrestrial planning, marine licensing and marine regulation and is nationally recognised for her expertise in Ports, Harbours and Coastal Development.
Lara acts for a range of Ports, Harbours, Local Authorities and Developers. She regularly advises on multi-million pound developments across the whole of the UK and has been described by Maritime Journal as a pre-eminent marine licensing lawyer. Her expertise in Ports and Harbours is recognised by the industry and highlighted by her election (by industry) on to the national board of the UK Harbour Master’s Association.
Lara has won numerous academic awards, including the Sweet and Maxwell Prize for graduating at the top of her year at Exeter University and, has recently been shortlisted for the Women in Law Awards 2019 (‘Real Estate’). Lara writes for prominent publications including the Local Government Lawyer, Maritime Journal and Planning Magazine. She also speaks at national conferences. During 2018, these included the British Ports Association Annual Conference and Investinblue. She was also invited to speak about coastal development at the 7th Annual World Congress of Ocean in China.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Major coastal regeneration project: Advising in respect of a major coastal regeneration project (in excess of £500 million GDV), including the Harbour Empowerment/Revision Order, marine licenses, other marine consents and interaction with terrestrial planning regime.
- Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI): Advising and acting for the RNLI in respect of the charity’s marine licensing requirements for maintenance of all existing infrastructure across the UK (in excess of 240 sites). Successfully secured the grant of ground breaking regional marine licences in England and Scotland.
- New Ferry Terminal: Advising and acting for a government department in connection with the construction of a new Ferry Terminal in a UK port, including statutory harbour power advice and associated marine licence.
- Harbour Revision and Harbour Closure Orders: Instructed in relation to four Harbour Revision Orders in 2018 (including drafting). Advising a statutory harbour authority in respect of a potential Harbour Closure Order. Objecting to a Harbour Revision Order on behalf of a third-party organisation.
- Multi-million pound coastal developments: Advising in respect of marine licences, other marine consents (including Wildlife Licensing), the Public Right of Navigation and EIA Regulation 10 Deferral connected to a number of multi-million pound coastal developments.
