Fraser Alexander is an of counsel and specialises in banking and finance; disputes (litigation and arbitration); insolvency; and real property.

Fraser is a senior disputes lawyer, having more than twenty (20) years of experience.  Fraser enrolled as an advocate in March 1992, and practised before the courts at Kollam (Quilon) and the Kerala High Court in Ernakulam until May 1996.  He then moved to Chennai (Madras) and was associated with M/s. Kurian & Associates, Advocates, where he handled various litigation matters in the banking and insurance sectors before the Madras High Court, and also advised on other civil matters.  Thereafter, Fraser handled various commercial disputes on behalf of NEPC India Limited and its group companies, a leading industrial group in South India.

In January 2000, Fraser joined the Lakshmi Vilas Bank Limited as an in-house lawyer in Mumbai, and was responsible for legal and security creation documentation, as well as recovery of debts against many defaulters across the northern states of India.  In August 2002, he moved to Development Credit Bank Limited (DCB), where he set-up an in-house legal team, and advised DCB and its business groups on various legal issues.  He also conducted comprehensive training courses for DCB officials on debt recovery procedures, including the SARFAESI Act. Fraser set a precedent in DCB for conducting its first auction of assets under the SARFAESI Act.

In November 2006, Fraser returned to private practice and joined Juris Corp, a boutique banking law firm.  Here, he was initially involved in syndicated loans, banking and securitisation work. In 2008, he became co-head of Juris Corp’s litigation team and handled all banking and commercial litigation.  Fraser advised both, foreign banks and Indian banks, and companies, on various dispute resolution matters.  Fraser successfully conducted various litigations before the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court against “wilful defaulters”, and before the Madras High Court in respect of derivatives actions.  He has also successfully defended a large public sector undertaking against an arbitration claim initiated by a contractor.  Additionally, Fraser has participated in the “Doing Business in India” survey conducted by the World Bank in the area of debt recovery and enforcement rights of secured creditors in India.

Fraser joined Majmudar & Partners as an associate partner in February 2013 and currently working as an of counsel for the firm.
