Position

Sally is a partner at BLM Manchester and qualified in February 2002, having completed her training contract with BLM. Her work within the regulatory team focuses on police and regulatory body investigations and prosecutions as well as inquests. She advises and represents individuals, public bodies and corporate clients through direct nominations as well as insurer instructions and carries out her own investigations and advocacy, ensuring a close relationship with each client. She assists clients handling incidents immediately post incident and in their own investigations, and regularly provides advice in respect of legal risk management. Sally handles a wide and varied caseload, including corporate manslaughter investigations, fatal accidents subject to s2 and s3 HSWA 1974 prosecutions, road traffic prosecutions, including death by dangerous and careless driving, as well as inquests relating to deaths in a range of circumstances, including deaths in the construction, care and transportation industries. She also has extensive civil litigation experience covering high value and complex claims enabling a multi-disciplinary approach where these issues overlap.

BLM's department is headed by the ‘undoubtedly impressiveHelen Devery, who is ‘calm, helpful and very capable’. Other members of the large team include the ‘very smart, hardworking and accessibleNatalie Puce, Sally Hancock, who has ‘great judgement and communication skills’, and Nick Gianferrari, who is regularly called on to represent clients in coroners' inquests. Associate David Rainey is ‘very sensitive to clients' needs and very knowledgeable’. The team is best known for its work in complex fatal accident investigations and very high-profile inquests. The team is currently representing Redrow Homes following a fatal incident at a site in Liverpool where a contractor was struck and killed by a large item of plant which was being operated by an employee of another sub-contractor. Other key clients include Warburton’s and G4S as well as Travelers and Aviva.
