William is a partner and head of the funds and financial services group advising on the launch, reconstruction, takeover and investments of funds and trading companies.

William has many years of experience in all aspects of real estate, private equity, split capital, emerging market, hedge and listed, offshore alternative investment funds as well as advising managers, brokers, nomads and sponsors. He has been rated as a leader in his field by various directories for many years.

William has recently been inducted to the 2018 Legal 500 Hall of fame as a result of his continued recognition by the directory. The Chambers UK 2017 legal directory describes William as having a "mastery of closed-end funds" that few in the market can match. William Saunders heads up the investment funds practice at Stephenson Harwood, which is acclaimed for its 'depth of experience across the team and first-class client accessibility'. Regulatory assistance is an area of regular workflow, with the firm supporting clients through the implementation of Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products (PRIIPs) Regulation and MiFID II. On the IPO side, Alex Haynes and others acted for N+1 Singer in their role as financial adviser and placing agent on the IPO of Hipgnosis Songs Fund.   • Companies should plan now to minimise their pension protection levy

    The amount that pension schemes have to pay to the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) for the year 2006/07 may have increased by as much as five times the previous year's levy. Employers who ultimately bear the cost of many pension schemes will need to make plans now to ensure the levy payable for the year 2008/09 is kept to a minimum.
