Position

A partner with an extensive range of shipping litigation and international arbitration experience, Stuart specialises primarily in the handling of shipbuilding, offshore and onshore construction disputes as well as dry shipping and general commercial matters.

Career

Stuart advises some of the firm’s largest clients on complex, multi-jurisdictional litigation and international arbitration disputes. He is recommended for shipping and contentious matters in South Korea by Legal 500 for his “in-depth knowledge and analytical skill”. His clients include major shipowners, shipbuilders, construction and EPC contractors, oil companies and insurers.

Recent highlights include advising two of Korea’s largest construction companies in relation to a US$500 million nuclear power plant dispute in the UAE and a leading Korean shipowner in a US$400 million dispute concerning defects in the construction of two LNG vessels.

Stuart relocated from London in 2014 to help set up the firm’s Seoul office. Since then he has played a central role in the office’s achievement of Band 1 status in Chambers Asia-Pacific for “Shipping: International Firms” in South Korea in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 and Tier 1 status in Legal 500 Asia-Pacific for “Shipping: Foreign Firms” in South Korea in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

He is an Inter-Pacific Bar Association Shipping Committee Member / Panellist and IBA Member and regularly speaks at seminars, conferences and industry wide events in London, Seoul, Tokyo and across South East Asia.
