Clement LeungStephenson Harwood LLP

Fielding one of ‘the largest, and most sophisticated’ asset finance teams in the market, Stephenson Harwood LLP is particularly well-suited to advising a balanced array of stakeholders, including banks, financial institutions, lessors, airlines, shipping companies, oil and gas businesses, and insurers, on large cross-jurisdictional deals across asset classes, most notably in the aviation, shipping and offshore spaces. Its aviation finance team, one of the largest in Singapore, is adept at handling the entire spectrum of matters, including US and European ECA-backed financings, bond private placements, operating leases, and ground-breaking hybrid flip-leases, to name a few. Helmed by Saugata Mukherjee, whose expertise covers derivatives and structured products, the group has handled a host of refinancings, complex workouts and rent deferrals as a result of the pandemic. Gregg Johnston heads a shipping and offshore sub-group that is emblematic of the eclectic nature of the firm’s workflow. In addition to providing advisory and risk mitigation services, the team is frequently involved in cross-border financings, sale and leasebacks, restructurings and corporate matters across all sub-sectors including containers, tankers, bulkers, rigs, cruise and specialist vessels. Iain Young is a reference in this sector, having led on some of the most high-profile shipping and offshore transactions in Asia. Banking and finance partner Gregory Xu has notable strength in the maritime industry, which is also a particular area of focus for Pedram Norton. Another key individual for shipping finance, Jeffrey Tanner leverages his expertise in banking, finance, maritime and energy transactional matters to advise clients in this segment. Clement Leung is regularly seen in cross-border aviation finance mandates, an area in which Michelle Runagall-Orlić excels.
