Career

Wen Ni’s main practice areas are in civil commercial litigation and private wealth. Wen Ni regularly advises ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families with assets spanning different jurisdictions on succession and estate planning with a view to business continuity and providing for the future generation. This includes the setting up of trust structures, family offices and applications for the relevant tax exemption schemes. Being a litigator, Wen Ni also acts for ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families in complex and high value disputes including contested estate / probate matters

Matters of significance in which Wen Ni has been involved in include acting/advising for the following:

  • An ultra-high-net-worth client, who is the owner of a 200-year-old company with business interests in property, engineering and leisure, on his succession planning and business continuity, which involves consideration as to the evolution of the 200-year old company and the need for business continuity.
  • A patriarch of a global integrated business enterprise that develops and operates businesses engaged mainly in agriculture, energy, mineral and metals and trade and finance headquartered in China, on his succession planning and estate planning which includes the setting up of a foreign grantor trust as well as application for tax exemption under section 13U of the Income Tax Act 1947 and related immigration issues.
  • An ultra-high-net-worth individual in a shareholders’ dispute in a multi-million family-owned company.
  • Deutsche Bank AG in the largest private banking claim (in excess of US$250 million) brought by a former private banking client in the Singapore High Court and Singapore Court of Appeal.
  • An ultra-high-net-worth individual with assets in excess of S$500million in proceedings commenced under the Mental Capacity Act 2008 which raise issues relating to the individual’s mental capacity in the Singapore High Court and Singapore Court of Appeal.
  • An ultra-high-net-worth individual in proceedings in the Singapore Courts in dispute over his assets in excess of S$150million in Singapore and Indonesia (which relates to disclosure of Wills to illegitimate children) as well as co-ordinate related proceedings in Indonesia.
