Employment and Immigration

Position

Partner, heading up the Employment and Immigration department. Matthew advises employers and employees on a broad range of employment matters, ranging from general day-to-day queries to more sophisticated/strategic issues. Matthew also has a wide ranging expertise in both executive and personal immigration matters. Types of work undertaken include, amongst other things, advising on the termination of employment (including settlement agreements), drafting and reviewing terms of employment (including staff handbooks/policies) and consultancy agreements, restrictive covenants and garden leave, redundancy and TUPE consultation, the process of bringing staff into the UK and the issues involved in obtaining their visas, immigration compliance obligations, EU/EEA applications and applications for settlement/indefinite leave to remain and naturalisation. Clients cover a diverse spread of industries including banks, trading companies, professional firms and private individuals.

Career

Joined the in-house Legal Team at The Learning Trust in 2006 and qualified as a solicitor in January 2009, before joining Solomon Taylor & Shaw in their Employment and Immigration department in December 2009 and becoming a partner in April 2017.
