Richard is a member of our infrastructure, energy and natural resources practice. He specialises in the project aspects (including concession arrangements, joint ventures, engineering, construction and operation and maintenance) of major international and domestic assets and transactions, with a particular focus on infrastructure and energy (traditional and renewables). He is a member of the steering committee for the energy and infrastructure stream at the firm and is also an active member of the firm’s commercial contracts and Africa advisory teams. Richard’s key clients include market-leading project sponsors and developers, pension funds, infrastructure and energy funds and governments.

Magic circle firm Slaughter and May is renowned for its transactional capabilities, regularly handling complex, business-critical transactions for infrastructure, energy and natural resources clients. Jointly led by Hywel Davies and Michael Corbett, the practice has a strong corporate focus, as well as notable expertise in renewables. Known for its work on large infrastructure projects, Slaughter and May offers expertise in both high and low-risk construction matters. The team has notably been involved in a number of stadium projects, in particular acting on behalf of Premier League football teams, and has a growing number of contractors on its client roster. Richard Todd heads up the construction team, advising on the engineering, operations and maintenance aspects of international and domestic projects. Senior associate Tom Inker is also well regarded for his large project work.

The practice at Slaughter and May advises on the environmental aspects of major transactions in the oil and gas, waste and energy spaces, including several recent big-ticket international deals. A number of transactions are driven by sustainability objectives or decarbonisation strategies, where the team’s environmental input plays even more of a key role. Energy, natural resources and infrastructure expert Richard Todd jointly leads the practice with senior counsel Samantha Brady, who has a broad range of expertise covering contamination, permitting and compliance matters, among others.
