Simon is a partner in the international insurance litigation and professional risk group. He defends claims (pre-action, litigated and in arbitrations) both in the UK and overseas on behalf of insurers and insured pursuant to the provisions of financial institutions, professional liability insurance and reinsurance products, and directors and officers policies. His practice also includes advising on the drafting, construction and operation of such policies.

Colin Passmore¬†is experienced in claims relating to accountancy professionals; Simon Hilditch¬†is ‚Äėfirst-rate‚Äô and is noted for his expertise in finance-related mandates; and Felix Zimmermann¬†specialises in defending professional negligence claims against insurance brokers, construction professionals, accountants and solicitors.   • Failure to counter financial crime: Norwich Union Life

    In December 2007, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) imposed a fine of £1.26m on Norwich Union Life (part of the Aviva Group), one of the largest life insurance businesses in the UK with around seven million customers. The fine related to failures to take reasonable care to establish and maintain effective systems and controls for countering the risks of financial crime. The fine is the latest confirmation of the emphasis being placed on protecting clients and customers from the threat of financial crime.
