Career

Ian was called to the Bar in 1983 and is a member of the Family Law Bar Association.

Skilled in complex and high value financial matters, Ian regularly appears in the High Court, often against Queens Counsel. He has also appeared in the Court of Appeal. His expertise spans both private and public law children proceedings, having acted for local authorities, parents, children and guardians (including the Official Solicitor). In addition, he has represented local authorities in judicial reviews and has chaired serious case reviews.

Ian practised at the independent bar in Newcastle for 23 years before joining Dickinson Dees as a partner equivalent in November 2006. In 2010 he was instrumental, with Margaret Simpson, in establishing Silk Family Law.
