Head of Environmental & Regulatory
With over 15 years’ experience, Lyn is a specialist regulatory lawyer, focusing on environmental, health and safety, food safety, trading standards and planning law.
Working with Mark Lumley, Head of Commercial, Lyn leads the regulatory team’s provision of a complete advisory and commercial support service to help businesses and those who run them comply with regulatory requirements. This includes:
- Helping set up and update policies and procedures
- Training and guidance for compliance officers and directors holding compliance obligations
- Broader business training and guidance for operational staff that can also be delivered by compliance and training officers
Guidance and support is provided in respect of all aspects of regulatory compliance; Lyn’s work includes:
- Directors’ duties and responsibilities
- Environmental, waste and packaging legislation
- Health and safety
- Food safety
- Trading standards
- Competition compliance
Lyn also assists clients on the increasingly important issue of risk apportionment of environmental/safety liabilities in the context of property and corporate transactions.
Lyn brings an outstanding level of knowledge and commitment to her work, and is the first person clients think of calling when an inspector calls.
Lyn has been recognised by her clients in the legal directories as quite simply “fantastic”. Lyn provides reliable and assured representation for clients faced with regulatory enquiries, investigations and prosecutions. Lyn seeks to bring enquiries to a positive conclusion prior to enforcement action commencing.
Lyn was the lead solicitor on the important sentencing guideline case R v Friskies Petcare (UK) Limited.
Whilst Lyn acts for all business sectors, she has significant specialist planning, environmental and regulatory knowledge in relation to mines, quarrying, waste management and complex chemical and manufacturing sites. Lyn has an in-depth understanding of the particular requirements of business operations in those sectors.
Lyn is an acknowledged expert in the requirements of managing chemical site compliance issues.
Past and current clients include several major household names (in the retail, food, waste and manufacturing sectors), as well as upper-tier and lower-tier COMAH sites.
Lyn is regularly invited to speak at conferences organised by high-profile national and regional organisations such as the RICS, IiE (investors in the Environment) and Electronics Yorkshire. Lyn is a regular contributor to trade and compliance publications.
