Career

Megan is a special counsel in the Banking and Finance team. Megan advises sponsors, borrowers and financiers on a range of financing transactions and accordingly is well versed on the different requirements and perspectives of these participants.

Megan’s practice has a particular focus on corporate, acquisition and property finance and other types of limited recourse financing encompassing numerous asset types and structures. Her practice includes not only running processes in respect of finance documentation for major transactions but also due diligence investigations and reporting for sponsors and/or financiers.

Megan has been at Corrs Chambers Westgarth since 2003, working in the Property and Infrastructure team for two years before moving to the Banking and Finance team in 2005.  Megan was seconded to Westpac Institutional Bank’s legal team for six months in 2007 and to ANZ’s loans structuring and execution team for three months in 2009.  Prior to Corrs, Megan worked as an attorney in South Africa for two years. She requalified in Australia and was admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales in 2004.

The practice’s leveraged and acquisition finance capabilities were recently bolstered by the high-profile arrival of John Mosley from MinterEllison who supplements a back bench which includes international finance specialist, Brad Husband, as well as special counsel Megan Russell, adept in the financing of a various asset types. Named lawyers form part of the Sydney office with the exception of Husband who works from Melbourne. The team has been further boosted with the arrival of Adam Stapledon and James Abbott from Allen & Overy LLP in early 2022.
