Ming Sun is a partner of the firm. Since 1996, Ming Sun has been in legal practice in Kuala Lumpur and in the Labuan International Business Financial Centre.

Ming Sun’s area of expertise lies in domestic and international corporate finance transactions. The transactions he is actively called upon to advice include, mergers and acquisitions, domestic and cross border public listing of equities, takeovers offer, privatisations, corporate and debt restructuring exercises as well as cross border Regulation S/Rule 144A debt securities offerings under the US Securities Act.

He is also the principal partner advising on matters in relation to Labuan laws.


Ming Sun has advised on numerous mergers and acquisitions in wide ranging industries including, licensed financial institutions, stock broking houses, insurance companies, social media companies, construction and water treatment plants, retail and distributive trades, manufacturing businesses and education.

He is also in the Capital Markets practice group and often engaged in domestic and cross border public listing of equities on the Malaysian, London and Australian stock exchanges as well as cross border Regulation S/Rule 144A debt securities offerings under the US Securities Act and mutual funds on the Labuan Exchange.

In addition, he often acts in transactions involving private equity and venture capital funds which include fund formation, deal structuring and financing and exit strategies. The transactions which he advised on include seed, series A to mezzanine transactions and exits by way of trade sale and/or initial public offering.

Ming Sun’s various experiences in numerous domestic and cross border transactions have gained him recognition in independent publications such as Chambers Global, IFLR 1000 and The Asia Pacific Legal 500. Ming Sun is also member of a focus group established by the Malaysian Securities Commission for consultation for legal reforms on rules and regulations for capital markets in Malaysia.

He has been recognised as a Leading Lawyer Rising Star in Financial and Corporate in the IFLR 1000 2017 and 2018 editions. In Asialaw Profiles 2018, a source compliments Ming Sun for providing ‘legal advice timely and efficiently’ and was commented as a ‘highly commercial, highly practical, highly personable’ lawyer in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2014.

Ming Sun graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B) from the University of Newcastle, United Kingdom in 1993. He subsequently obtained his Master’s degree (M.Sc) in International Banking and Finance in 1994 from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom.

He is a Barrister-at-Law of the Middle Temple and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1995, the Malaysian Bar in 1996 and the Singapore Bar in 2001.
