Jarrod works with his clients to ensure they have the most effective tax structures for their businesses. His areas of focus include debt and equity capital markets transactions, corporate financings, mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructurings. He advises on a range of other tax matters such as the tax implications of employment arrangements (including share and option schemes) and on FATCA compliance issues, and acts for clients in dispute with the Inland Revenue Department. He is experienced in advising migrants and returning expatriates on tax issues and international clients on the establishment and tax treatment of New Zealand foreign trust and limited partnership arrangements.

He works with individuals and families to safeguard their personal and business interests. He advises on the establishment and maintenance of family, investment and business trusts, other estate and asset planning matters and on relationship property issues. He also acts for charities and advises them on constitutional and registration matters.

Jarrod’s tax and private client knowledge is complemented by extensive domestic and international experience as a banking and finance lawyer. This includes eight years at leading law firms Clifford Chance and Allen & Overy, in Amsterdam, Hong Kong and London. In that capacity he acted for global financial institutions such as ABN AMRO, ING, Barclays, Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan Chase on a range of financing transactions. He gained significant experience in structured financing transactions, leveraged financing, aircraft financing, general syndicated and bilateral lending, restructurings, securitisation structures and derivative products.
