Simon has particular experience in competition investigations and proceedings, property and construction disputes, and insurance law. He has acted in many of the leading Commerce Commission cartel investigations and court proceedings over the last decade, including the timber preservative chemicals, packaging, gas insulated switchgear, air cargo, freight forwarding, and real estate investigations.
He represents defendants in large, multiparty construction disputes in the High Court and acts for a number of clients in property and leasing disputes. Simon is co-leader of Bell Gully’s insurance practice and liaison partner for Suncorp Group.

Bell Gully has a key role in earthquake litigation and is also a prominent player in corporate transactions and insolvencies involving major insurers. The firm’s work for Southern Response Earthquake Services is a key part of its practice, though it has also handled significant matters arising from the Canterbury earthquakes for insurers Vero, AIG, Zurich, QBE, Chubb, and IAG. Last year, the firm handled more 40 insurance claims in the High Court. In Auckland, head of litigation David Friar and Simon Ladd, who is litigation liaison for key insurer client Suncorp, are the lead partners.
