Real estate, technology, energy and natural resources are particular sector strengths for the team at Shepherd and Wedderburn, which has clients ranging from large corporates to fast-growing businesses. Carl Powlson leads the practice; alongside Philip Knowles, he advised Accrue Capital on its £43m acquisition of 100% of the share capital of seven Isle of Man incorporated companies from Harwood Real Estate, and acted for ICG-Longbow on various acquisitions, including two for £51.4m, made through a joint venture vehicle. Walter Blake assisted Satellite Solutions Worldwide Group with its equity fundraising in connection with the acquisition of wireless broadband provider Quickline Communications, as well as other acquisitions in Norway and Australia. The team has also acted for a number of overseas corporates: Andrew Blain, who splits his time between London and Edinburgh, advised Austria-based Andritz on the acquisition of a majority shareholding in key supplier Powerlase Photonics. Senior associate Tom Swan is also noted.
