Corporate Tax

Position

Stephen is a partner in the corporate tax practice, advising on a wide range of direct and indirect taxes including corporation tax, VAT, stamp duty land tax, land and buildings transaction tax, capital gains tax, capital allowances, charity tax and employee taxation. He works closely with our corporate and real estate teams to ensure that transactions are implemented in the most tax efficient manner for clients, including corporate acquisitions, disposals and restructuring, sales and purchases of real estate, and property development and financing. Stephen has over 15 years’ experience and has worked with various industry leading organisations, such as The Miller Group Limited, BAE Systems and Cairn Energy PLC.

Shepherd and Wedderburn's practice is jointly led by Stephen Miller and employee share incentives expert Rodger Cairns. Another notable individual is senior associate Douglas Sinclair who, like Miller, is a chartered tax adviser. The team plays a key role in high-profile and groundbreaking corporate and real estate transactions, as demonstrated by its recent work advising Hermes Investment Management/Britel Fund on the tax issues related to the Capital Square office development in Edinburgh, and assisting Wheatley Housing Group with the LBTT aspects of a joint venture agreement with Glasgow City Council. The team also advises clients on various other issues, such as SDLT, Pay as You Earn and national insurance, among others. Miller Homes, Taylor Wimpey and Scottish high-growth company TVSquared are among the firm's key clients.
